The Hong Kong Flute Academy was founded by Mr. Matthew Wu in 2004. The goal of the academy is to provide professional training for flute learners as well as to nourish music appreciation and enjoyment through the flute.
Matthew Wu
Matthew Wu was born in Jiangxi, China. He graduated with honors from the Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music and also at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Even as a young student, Matthew had already participated in a number of well-known orchestras such as Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Asian Youth Orchestra. Since then, Wu has been keenly active in the music world especially in South East Asia and Europe.
In 1997, he was awarded the Rachel Percival Scholarship to study with Paul Edmund-Davies, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he completed his Post-graduate Diploma and a Licentiate in flute performance. Wu is currently the Principal Flautist of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonic. He teaches flute at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Hong Kong Institute of Education as well as the Hong Kong Flute Academy. In 2004, Wu founded the Hong Kong Flute Association and the Hong Kong Flute Academy with the sole desire to promote flute music in Hong Kong as well as to foster its standards at an international level. He still maintains the chairmanship at the above. He is well respected and highly praised for his skills and devotion to the promotion of flute music. |
